What is a Fraction?

A fraction is a part of a whole. It simply tells us how many parts of a whole that we have. For example, if I have a 1/2 of an apple there is still another ½ to make it a whole.

The top number of a Fraction is known as the numerator which is how many parts of the whole we have. The bottom number is the denominator and this refers to how many pieces are needed to make a whole.

How it is used in our daily lives?

Fractions are used in our everyday lives. When we look at the clock we notice that there is 1/4 past 1/4 to and a half past (1/2). Another example of Fractions being used in our daily lives is when we are cooking and reading recipes and we need 3/4 of a cup of sugar.
